  • Second-degree assault: When someone knowingly  causes serious bodily injury to another person without a deadly weapon; or recklessly causes serious bodily injury using a deadly weapon.
  • Third-degree assault: When someone causes  injury to another person due intentional, knowing or reckless concuct. 

Furthermore, Colorado assigns different penalties, when it comes to the different types of assault crimes. For exmaple, first-degree assault is a class 3 felony that can lead to up to 32 years in prison and fines up to $750,000. A second-degree assault is a class 4 felony, that can resul in up to 16 years in prison and fines up to $500,000. Whereas, a third-degree assault is a class 1 misdemeanor with up to 18 months in jail and fines up to $1,000.
